Leadership that makes a difference.
With over 30 years of experience in construction, Richard is the engine that makes our company operate. Richard brings leadership, experience, knowledge, and relationships to the team. He is active in all aspects of marketing, sales, pre-construction, and construction through the completion of each project, guiding all employees to a good future. Richard works 24/7 to offer insight into every type of project.
Passionate about honesty and commitment, Richard assumed CEO duties in 2004, leading our company to a consistent volume of $100 million to $200 million per year while maintaining profitability and shareholder equity. Richard studied construction management at California State University of Chico and DeAnza College. He loves to spend time with his wife of 30 years, three children, and one grandchild. Richard's word is his bond, and he lives by that motto. At SBC, he ensures that everyone delivers on all aspects of a project.
Strength of Character
When it comes to the success of a company, business development and client retention are essential. South Bay Construction entrusts both to JB Cahoon. JB’s priority is building relationships, maintaining relationships, developing business opportunities, providing pre-construction and budgeting services. He helps our clients better evaluate potential projects with fast conceptual budgeting, and he maintains relationships with brokers, developers, architects, and construction managers. JB also focuses on marketing and making sure our company image is maintained through the website, corporate identity, press releases, and news articles.
He has a passion for working with good people, exceeding expectations, honoring his word, building something tangible, and building a future for both SBC and his wife and three children. His drive comes from his experience playing collegiate football, and he cites Richard Furtado as a role model. If you have a project you are interested in building, talk to JB. He’s the right guy for the job.
Coming Through for Clients
On any project, someone has to engineer success. South Bay Construction partner Cameron Peach does just that, overseeing many projects as well as the day-to-day operations at SBC. A start in carpentry gave Cameron a good basis for construction knowledge and understanding of the trade. Cameron attended the University of San Diego, where he earned an accounting degree and met his wife. Cameron devotes all of his time to family and business and is passionate about building and about people. This gives him the ability to lead his work family with ultimate commitment. He finds inspiration from his family, friends, parents (for the values, work ethic, and skill they passed down to him), and partners (for their unique talents, hard work, and dedication).
Cameron’s experience in design-build work has helped him become an invaluable asset, assisting clients to make sure they get the correct design and price. As a licensed contractor, Cameron has the background needed to continue to lead SBC to success. He is the seasoned professional that makes working with SBC unlike working with any other contractor.
Communication and quality control first
Wayne Smith understands quality control and attention to detail. EFIS-certified, Wayne is an integral part of South Bay Construction, overseeing all superintendents and field operations, maintaining strict accordance with contract documents, verifying safety compliance, and managing quality control. With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, his longevity in the industry has taught him how to deal with a variety of different personalities, situations, and materials. He is driven by the different types of people and teams he works with every day, and he enjoys collaborating with project team members (office and field staff) in all aspects of the job.
Inspired by the creation of solid relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the SBC family, Wayne effectively deals with inspections and compliance measures, implements and maintains cost-effective construction standards, reviews construction drawings, and communicates in all vendor/client relations. He loves being involved with youth sports with his children and also enjoys skiing and local, live music.
Streamlining financial operations
Every company requires the brilliant expertise of a financial leader. Jerri Kroen has been with the construction industry for over 20 years and provides more than expertise to her role as CFO. Jerri oversees and manages all financial activities with South Bay Construction. She streamlines all financial operations with proficiency and leads SBC forward with passion. Jerri has an obvious love for her job and her work family. She is a seasoned player at SBC with a deep understanding of construction and the construction process, which she utilizes to provide sound financial guidance. As no two projects are exactly alike, her experience gives her the ability to guide and lead others through whatever situation a project might be in.
Inspired by Richard Furtado’s hard work and dedication — as well as by all her work partners — Jerri is driven to be the best she can. She enjoys cooking and spending time with family and friends and loves watching her coworkers grow and gain experience with each completed project.
Promoting the SBC Enterprise
Jenny Mata wears many hats. Her hard work and dedication give South Bay Construction the ability to run smoothly. As Office Manager, Jenny manages office logistics, employee training, marketing strategies, policies and procedures, budgets, and so much more. She is also passionate about the services SBC provides as a General Contractor, building environments where people can live their lives and create successful businesses. Jenny is results-driven, programmed to work whether it be in the office of a 200-million-dollar company or in her home with her three children.
Nicknamed the “den mother,” Jenny helps everyone to succeed as much as she can. She enjoys seeing individual results and overall success as a product of her support. She loves attending live music performances, cooking, and spending time with her children at their sports games as Team Mom.
“AFFORDABLE COST IS GREAT, BUT WITH SBC, THE QUALITY IS THERE TOO.”
“THEY MAKE IT EASY TO BUILD TRUST. EVEN WHEN I'VE CHANGED PROJECT MANAGERS, I'VE FOUND CONSISTENCY. ”
“SBC REALLY GOES THE DISTANCE (ANY LENGTH) TO DELIVER WHAT WE WANT. ”
“SBC DOESN'T LOOK FOR REASONS TO SAY NO. THEY LOOK FOR REASONS TO SAY YES. ”
“TRUST IS SO IMPORTANT. I CAN'T HAVE MY TIMELINES AFFECTED BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVEN'T BUILT GOOD RELATIONSHIPS, AND CAN'T DELIVER. ”
We provide a fun, relaxing, accommodating workplace environment — one that nurtures the growth of each employee through guidance, education, and new opportunities for improvement. That’s because South Bay Construction functions as a family and truly wants all of our team members to feel both supported and important.
