When it comes to the success of a company, business development and client retention are essential. South Bay Construction entrusts both to JB Cahoon. JB’s priority is building relationships, maintaining relationships, developing business opportunities, providing pre-construction and budgeting services. He helps our clients better evaluate potential projects with fast conceptual budgeting, and he maintains relationships with brokers, developers, architects, and construction managers. JB also focuses on marketing and making sure our company image is maintained through the website, corporate identity, press releases, and news articles.

He has a passion for working with good people, exceeding expectations, honoring his word, building something tangible, and building a future for both SBC and his wife and three children. His drive comes from his experience playing collegiate football, and he cites Richard Furtado as a role model. If you have a project you are interested in building, talk to JB. Cameron Peach

Partner

Coming Through for Clients

On any project, someone has to engineer success. South Bay Construction partner Cameron Peach does just that, overseeing many projects as well as the day-to-day operations at SBC. A start in carpentry gave Cameron a good basis for construction knowledge and understanding of the trade. Cameron attended the University of San Diego, where he earned an accounting degree and met his wife. Cameron devotes all of his time to family and business and is passionate about building and about people. This gives him the ability to lead his work family with ultimate commitment. He finds inspiration from his family, friends, parents (for the values, work ethic, and skill they passed down to him), and partners (for their unique talents, hard work, and dedication).

Cameron’s experience in design-build work has helped him become an invaluable asset, assisting clients to make sure they get the correct design and price. As a licensed contractor, Cameron has the background needed to continue to lead SBC to success. He is the seasoned professional that makes working with SBC unlike working with any other contractor.

Dusty Furtado

Partner

Leading the Next Generation

A key focus of Dusty Furtado’s role at SBC is guiding the next generation of project managers and maintaining a relationship of trust with our clients. Dusty's exposure to the industry began at an early age when he saw his father working in construction. When it came time for Dusty to begin his career, he stepped foot into the field where he was able to acquire valuable knowledge on the building process. Having years of experience in the construction field and an in-depth understanding of construction procedures, he can thoroughly and effectively communicate with all stakeholders involved in a project. He is actively involved in managing projects from start to finish, ensuring timely schedules, creating, and balancing budgets, and leading the project team in delivering exceptional products. At SBC, Dusty values the close-knit team atmosphere and appreciates the company's focus on team building and fostering a positive work environment.

Outside of work, Dusty is a proud family man, married to his high school sweetheart since 2006 and father to three children. He is motivated by success for his family and strives to teach his children the importance of hard work and responsibility. Dusty is also a competitive youth baseball coach and enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and boating with friends and family.

Wayne Smith

General Superintendent

Communication and Quality Control First

Wayne Smith understands quality control and attention to detail. EFIS-certified, Wayne is an integral part of SBC, overseeing all superintendents and field operations, maintaining strict accordance with contract documents, verifying safety compliance, and managing quality control. With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, his longevity in the industry has taught him how to deal with a variety of different personalities, situations, and materials. He is driven by the different types of people and teams he works with every day, and he enjoys collaborating with project team members (office and field staff) in all aspects of the job.

Inspired by the creation of solid relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the SBC family, Wayne effectively deals with inspections and compliance measures, implements and maintains cost-effective construction standards, reviews construction drawings, and communicates in all vendor/client relations. He loves being involved with youth sports with his children and also enjoys skiing and local, live music.

Theron Miller

General Superintendent

Guiding from Knowledge and Experience

Theron Miller started his career at SBC as Superintendent, running our largest project to-date, 1440 Multiversity. But his experience in the industry did not start there - he is a 3rd generation carpenter, his father was a spec home builder and Theron even ran a framing crew at age 18. His wealth of knowledge about the industry, health and safety, as well as the building process from start to finish is evident in how he clearly and calmly communicates and performs his job. As General Superintendent, he is a resource not only for the field operation but also for Project Managers and ownership. He is responsible for overseeing the construction process from start to finish, working with our Safety Manager and the many talented SBC Superintendents to ensure we provide a safe working environment, he performs job walks to assess job status, schedule, subcontractor safety compliance, and addresses any challenges that may arise during the building process.

Theron's motivation is in educating young construction professionals on navigating the building process and seeing them learn and grow. On his free time Theron loves to surf, skate, ride and race dirt bikes!

Richard Burgess

Safety Manager

Ensuring Safety through Teamwork

Richard Burgess strongly advocates the importance of teamwork to ensure safety guidelines are met so that we all make it home healthy and injury-free at the end of the day. His goal is to keep everyone safe by identifying potential risks in our workspace and finding solutions for them. He brings experience and knowledge in health and safety to SBC and is an extra pair of eyes for our Superintendents out in the field. Richard reviews subcontractors’ safety programs and checks their safety records, ensuring their alignment with SBC standards and their compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Richard is a proud husband and father to three sons - he says they "keep him rooted and motivated". He is a member of the National Association of Safety Professionals where he is a Certified Safety Manager in Construction. He is also certified in OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E Electrical Safety.

Jerri Kroen

CFO/Controller

Streamlining Financial Operations

Every company requires the brilliant expertise of a financial leader. Jerri Kroen has been with the construction industry for over 20 years and provides more than expertise to her role as CFO. Jerri oversees and manages all financial activities with South Bay Construction. She streamlines all financial operations with proficiency and leads SBC forward with passion. Jerri has an obvious love for her job and her work family. She is a seasoned player at SBC with a deep understanding of construction and the construction process, which she utilizes to provide sound financial guidance. As no two projects are exactly alike, her experience gives her the ability to guide and lead others through whatever situation a project might be in.

Inspired by Richard Furtado’s hard work and dedication — as well as by all her work partners — Jerri is driven to be the best she can. She enjoys cooking and spending time with family and friends and loves watching her coworkers grow and gain experience with each completed project.

Jenny Mata

Office Manager

Promoting the SBC Enterprise

Jenny Mata wears many hats. Her hard work and dedication give South Bay Construction the ability to run smoothly. As Office Manager, Jenny manages office logistics, employee training, marketing strategies, policies and procedures, budgets, and so much more. She is also passionate about the services SBC provides as a General Contractor, building environments where people can live their lives and create successful businesses. Jenny is results-driven, programmed to work whether it be in the office of a 200-million-dollar company or in her home with her three children.

Nicknamed the “den mother,” Jenny helps everyone to succeed as much as she can. She enjoys seeing individual results and overall success as a product of her support. She loves attending live music performances, cooking, and spending time with her children at their sports games as Team Mom.

Marc Morgan

Director of Design & Construction

Collaborating with Developers and the Design Team

Marc Morgan plays a pivotal role at SBC. From inception to completion, Marc collaborates closely with developers and the design team, guiding them through every facet of their projects, shepherding their vision to reality. As a leader, Marc nurtures our project teams, fostering growth and development. His journey into construction began with his parents' small development venture, a connection formed at age 13. From those early summers on jobsites, he formed his passion for the field. Transitioning from hands-on trades to an office role, he witnessed the evolution of construction technology. Embracing these changes became integral, as computers, the internet, and cell phones revolutionized the landscape.

Outside of work, Marc relishes moments with family and friends, savoring summers through wake surfing and exploring new horizons through travel.

Larry Lenz

Project Executive

Leading the Team

Larry Lenz has many roles within the company, including being a resource for the operations team, assisting with pre-con exercises and strategic planning, as well as providing oversight to the project teams. Communication is crucial to his success, and he values being an active listener and providing guidance when necessary. In his career, he takes pride in always continuing to learn to avoid becoming a stagnant learner. He finds the dynamic nature of his job exhilarating and enjoys being able to adapt to whatever comes his way. Larry has a cool, calm demeanor and values building relationships with knowledgeable people. His passion for construction began at a young age when a family friend brought him to jobsites and allowed him to use power tools.

The culture at SBC is important to him, and he believes it fosters a great work atmosphere. Outside of work, Larry enjoys skiing, golfing, hunting, coaching his kids' sports teams, and cooking with his wife. Larry’s biggest accomplishment and motivation in life is his family.
