This project was an expansive, multi-use, 85,000 square foot ground-up commercial dry fermentation anaerobic digestion facility with extensive on-and-off- site improvements. Located in the verdant San Jose area, the facility was the first of its kind in the United States, and is the largest in the world. SBC provided design and construction services that bring the facility to meet LEED Silver and CalGreen Certifications.

The CalGreen facility is Located near Zanker landfill. The facility uses top dry anaerobic digestion and composting technologies to help keep organic materials out of landfills and produces energy from the byproduct of the fermentation process (methane gas), which drives two 800kw gensets. The facility is able to sell power back to PG&E after providing power for the entire facility. The final end product is resalable organic compost.

“THE TEAM THAT WAS ASSIGNED TO OUR PROJECT...WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT AND ASSURED THAT THE OWNER EXPECTATIONS WERE MET AND OFTEN EXCEEDED.”
