A New Los Altos Community Hub at 170 State Street

Recently, SBC worked on a beautiful, community-focused food hall and office space at 170 State Street.

170 State Street is a gorgeous two-story Spanish style building that features a welcoming courtyard and outdoor area with seating. The space is planned to host a wide range of businesses to serve and complement downtown Los Altos. It features a 16,505-square-foot ground floor that will host a food market and a wide range of shops including a coffee bar, restaurant, and a teaching kitchen. In addition to the ground floor dining hall, the basement holds a lounge and bar area, and the second floor is an office space that features meeting rooms and a lounge.

The space is a sight to behold. Gorgeous wood and tile work (98% of which is handmade and painted) beautifully finished off the redone dining hall. Handmade pavers line the walkways, and reclaimed wood, including some from the famous Hollywood Bowl, is used throughout the space, particularly in the dining hall and basement. In the open area, we configured the walls and made the beams part of the open area, bringing a really great feature and feeling to the space, reminiscent of the natural world.

As the building’s ownership no longer used the architect to direct changes, they relied heavily on our superintendent Paulo to track and implement the changes they wanted to see with finishes and conflicts of the existing building. We completed seismic upgrades to the whole space, from the footings to the roof. We expertly installed seven exhaust hoods for the kitchen prep area of the food court through an extremely tight pathway to the roof. The building was stripped down to wood framing, and it was completed with brand new MEPF, windows from the UK, custom tile finishes, upgraded stucco finishes, custom exterior balcony railings, new three-level interior stairs, and a new three-stop elevator with custom interiors.

170 State Street was a project we were thrilled to work on, and we are excited to share it with you, soon, when it opens to the public.
